Oyster Shells and Beads - an eco friendly art

ree

I never imagined incorporating oyster shells or any other type of shell into my art. Years ago, my mother-in-law would collect the used shells after dinner, telling us "don't judge." I was always intrigued to learn what she did with them. Eventually, I discovered she mixed the shells into the soil of her pots to help her beautiful plants thrive. She certainly has a green thumb and is my go-to person for any plant and flower inquiries.

I chose to work with oyster shells after seeing stunning art online. A popular trend I noticed was decoupage art. I aimed to enliven these shells by applying beautiful patterns and adding sparkle, giving them color and vibrancy. I also incorporated hemp string and wooden beads. Since starting this project, I've developed an appreciation for their beauty.

These serve multiple purposes. They can decorate your door or act as a charm for a wine bottle. Any bottle looks much nicer adorned with shells. You can also add them to your Christmas tree or use them as napkin rings.

I recently gave my mother-in-law a set of decoupaged shells as a gift. I shared my story with her, and she laughed. We both understand that mom knows best.
